What Defines You?

January 20, 2013

As we continue the beginning of our journey through 2013, we often re-examine and re-define ourselves. We tend to ask the question, “Who am I?” Sometimes we get down trodden in the fact that we think we are bad people, or that we aren’t where we want to be–yet. We tend to think there is something wrong with us, and that we just have bad luck. Today we are going to minimize those kinds of thoughts and replace them with positive, loving ones. Let’s learn the truth of who we really are and what really defines us.

At our core, we are all just love. Throughout our lives we have learned to cover up this love with fear and other negative emotions. In reality we are love-based beings ready to give and receive love. Once we get into that mindset, we continue on our paths to finding what we really want in life. We are what we think, and these thoughts have profound effects on our lives. If you think you’re too stupid to get your dream job, you’re probably not going to get your dream job. If you think you’re not pretty enough to find the man of your dreams, your prince charming probably isn’t coming any time soon. Our first mission in this brand new year and brand new era is to find a way back to love. Imagine your life is like one of those Russian nesting dolls. You have many layers, but deep down you have a core. Your core is love. How you choose to build from the inside out is your choice. We are all different in that regard. I may choose to spend my life in the corporate world, you may choose to spend yours being a professional chef, the possibilities are endless. They are all wonderful and they are perfect for each of us in our own right.

Let’s break this down into a few key steps on how to re-define who we really are.

1- Love. Love is always number one. Even though we’ve gone through this in the previous paragraphs, it can never be stated enough. When we build our lives based on love, we will be open and receptive to all the things in the world that we want to bring in. The energy that we send out is the energy that we will receive back.

2- Passion. Find what you’re passionate about in life. What are your hobbies? What do you find yourself doing when you have free time? Find something that’s important to you and allow it to become a large part of your life. Amazing things come to us when we are invested in doing things that truly make us happy.

3- Health. We cannot go about our daily lives without truly feeling our best. It’s so important how we treat our bodies. Be mindful of what you eat and find time to get physical exercise. This will allow you to be the best you can be from the inside, out.

4- Relationships. We are who we surround ourselves with. We all know this by now. A layer of the nesting doll must be our relationships. How do we relate with our loved ones, our co-workers, even the strangers on the street? Most importantly, how do we relate to ourselves? Examine this, and figure out what this doll looks like in your world.

5- Spiritual or Religious Practices. Having some sort of relationship with God (or the Light, or the Source, or the word of your choosing) is a very important part of life. It helps you feel connected to something in this world and allows you to feel a sense of purpose and comfort.

How have you focused on making love your core? Have you noticed a difference since you let love become the center of your daily actions? Let us know!
